Variety Show: Thurs 4/4, Fri 4/5

 Can you sing? Dance? Tell jokes? Play an instrument? Do you have another amazing talent you want to share with fellow classmates and Hemenway families? If so, please join us at the annual Hemenway Elementary School Variety Show, take the stage, and show us what you’ve got!

Description: All Hemenway students are invited to participate in our school-wide variety show, a fantastic evening to celebrate the many talents of Hemenway! This event is run entirely by the PTO and parent volunteers and includes musical, athletic, and comedic performances by students, teachers, and parents!

Showtime:
Thursday, April 4, 2019 @ 6 PM (Rehearsal);
Friday, April 5, 2019 @ 6:30 PM (Variety Show)
Students must be present on both evenings to participate.

Location:    Walsh Middle School Auditorium

Acts:
Variety Show acts can be performed solo or in groups. Acts must be no longer than 2-minutes in length. Students will perform on stage in front of a live audience.

Because the Variety Show has been so popular, a lottery registration will be conducted.  Preference will be given to the first 20 group acts registered to offer as many children as possible a chance to be on stage.  To give most students the opportunity to perform, we encourage your child(ren) to form a group/team. The remaining group and solo acts will be drawn by lottery. Should your act not receive a slot, you can be added to the Join the Act performance.

MC: Fifth grade students can volunteer to be MCs at the Variety Show. An MC serves as a “master of ceremonies” and introduces acts throughout the night. Students may choose to MC the show and not participate in another Variety Show act. Fifth grade students who are participating in another Variety Show act may also volunteer to MC; however, MCs spots may be limited and priority will be given to those who choose to only MC. Extra MC slots may be chosen at random.

Join the Act: This will be our eighth year offering Join the Act, a choreographed group dance performance that welcomes all kinds of talent and is specifically designed for any student who does not have his/her own act. Join the Act is led by parent volunteer and actress, Ceit Zweil. This is a wonderful opportunity for any student to get on stage! Join the Act is especially advantageous for Kindergarteners and First Graders who have never before experienced performing. 
Note: If you sign up for Join the Act, you cannot be in another act.

Volunteer Help: The Variety Show is a huge undertaking and cannot run without the help of parent volunteers. This event is a prime example of the Hemenway community coming together for our children and school. When each parent is able to help, the show is a success. If your child chooses to participate in the show, we will contact you to sign up for help.  Volunteer opportunities include large and small jobs “behind the scenes” leading up to the show, help at the dress rehearsal, and during Variety Show night. Help is needed with music, lighting, stage management, student organization, the playbill, concession stand, etc. We will find a volunteer opportunity to fit your schedule. Forms:  Forms must be completed by February 26 in order to participate. There are two online forms:

Please complete one form per act. List all students on the same form. A separate Student Permission Form must be submitted by each student in that act.

Each student in an act must submit a separate Permission Form regardless if s/he is performing solo or is part of a group act. Students cannot participate if this form is not completed.

Note: You only need to complete one form – the Student Permission Form - if your child wants to participate in Join the Act or only wants to MC.

Scholastic Book Fair: Wed 2/5 thru Thurs 2/14

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Hemenway from Wednesday 2/6 thru Thursday 2/14!  The fair will be held in the Lobby. This is a fantastic event which raises money for all Hemenway students.

BOOK FAIR WEBSITE: Please check out our book fair website. This contains all the details including shopping schedule, eWallet and MORE for our fair. 

BOOK FAIR SCHEDULE: Wed 2/6 thru Thurs 2/14 (9:30am-3pm) - These are student shopping days. Teachers have selected a shopping time slot that works best for their classroom. They do not shop during Library/Media time. Check the Events section of our Book Fair Website to find out when your child(ren)'s classrooms will be shopping. You can also check with your classroom teacher(s).

The Book Fair will be open for FAMILY SHOPPING: Wed 2/6 - PTO Meeting (6:30pm) Sat 2/9 - VIP Dance (TBD) Mon 2/11 - 3:30pm-6pm Wed 2/13 - 3:30pm-6pm

BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS: The book fair needs your help to be successful. It's lots of fun helping kids find their perfect book, sift through their money to pay all on their own, and watch them walk away with huge smiles!!  Please sign up today!

BOOK FAIR eWALLET & MONEY: NEW digital payment: eWallet. We are able to accept cash, check (made out to Hemenway PTO), credit cards (during family shopping) and NOW eWallet. eWallet is a new digital payment option provided by Scholastic.  

If you would like your student to shop at the fair, please send money in a marked envelope with your child's name on it ($8 would allow them to purchase one book). Students are required to purchase one book before purchasing non book items.

ONLINE BOOK FAIR: Families will be able to shop online after the in school fair from 2/13 thru 3/5 link on our Book Fair Website. All online purchases will be delivered to Hemenway after the online fair as closed.

Classroom/Teacher Wish List & Teacher Recommended Books A Classroom Wish List display will be available for families/students to chose a book from a teacher's wish list to purchase or make a monetary donation. Book shelf markers will also be displayed showing teacher recommended books.
